Makana turned three on June 23rd, 2008. My mom was here for her birthday, but we ended up celebrating with cake the day after (the 24th). I wish I could recall what we did, but I can't! So many visitors over the past few weeks and just busy with so many different things that I just can't remember! Wish I wrote it down.
Makana had been talking of getting her hair cut short like Daddy and Li. She loves everything that Daddy does most of the time. She thought she might like to go to the barber to get her haircut just like Daddy. But...when we attempted to go, it was closed that day. So Makana opted for setting an appointment up with Chris who cuts my hair. The appointment was for the next day at 3pm. The following day (Tuesday July 8th) Li got his hair cut at the Jones Brothers barber shop. It was so cool to see him sit in the chair's alongside the wall and engage in conversations with other customers! He feels very comfortable there. I had to leave him alone a few times for several minutes to take Makana out of the shop because the wait was quite long. The food we bought and ate while we waited helped alot too.
At 3pm, Makana and I and Li went to Chris' home/shop to get her haircut. Katie opted to stay home. Makana started off sitting on my lap and then when Chris asked her if she'd like to sit on the booster seat by herself (because it was easier for Chris to maneuver around), Kana said yes. I will upload a photo of Makana getting her hair cut. She sat there very quietly and still while Chris chatted to her and I. (I again told Chris that the reason they sat there is because they wanted to. Just like Li did when he saw her at around the same age when he too wanted to get his hair cut. If I find that sweet photo of Li getting his first hair cut..with Chris also..I will upload that as well!) Makana seemed pleased during whole process! Just before her long, blonde hair was cut, it had been combed and the tangles were cut off. At that moment I was thinking how beautiful and shiny it looked! I guess for me it was hard to watch it all go. However, I knew that this is what Makana wanted, so I sat quietly and supportively. Makana is still happy with her short haircut today (8/15/08)!
